Simon and Jayne Gibson

A few months ago we began collecting old and unused Lego. A great donation came from a number of individuals and churches, including Carrick Baptist, which we are really thankful for. This collection was with the aim of running Lego based Bible clubs throughout Cavan.

In January we booked a community centre and advertised the club in local schools in Belturbet, Ballyconnell and Newtowngore. Very quickly we were full and over subscribed! Again we booked the community centre for another Lego based Bible club in February for the boys and girls who couldn’t attend the first club. The February club was also fully booked. This outreach has attracted many families from all parts of the community and we praise God for each child and contact made. It is our plan to continue with the Lego based Bible clubs on a monthly basis and eventually see Good News Clubs started.

We have been really encouraged by two local people who have volunteered to help us with the ministry in this part of Cavan. We would love to see more volunteers from local churches serving God in their own community.

Our preparation for summer ministry is well underway. We hope to have a smaller CYIA (Christian Youth In Action) team staying with us again to do 5 Day Clubs in Belturbet and Cavan Town. This year we are looking forward to helping with a Holiday Bible Club in Tullamore, which is County Offaly. The Cavan/Mayo camp will be in its second year! We already have a good number of applications from children and leaders which is a real answer to prayer.

It has been great to be part of the Cavan Baptist church plant in Belturbet. Belturbet is just 7 minutes from where we live and is also where the girls go to school. As well as weekly Bible studies, the church plant is holding monthly meetings in the same community centre we have our Lego Bible Clubs and Junior Youth Challenge. Jessica, Jayne and I are involved in music and leading at the minute. It is an exciting time for Cavan Baptist and great to work alongside Joel and Katya Marcus, the Baptist Missions workers here in Belturbet.

Family news – Jessica will be doing her Junior Certificate exams in June this year. She has been revising hard over the last number of months and is looking forward to summer! Robyn is involved in helping with the tinies at Sunday School and is great at keeping them under control! Bronwyn has one more year of national School before her move to high school. She can’t wait to meet up with all her friends from Carrick Baptist at Kilkeel camp this year.

PRAYER POINTS:

Praise God for the new contacts we have made with children and parents through the Lego events.
Praise God for the two local volunteers who have been working with us.
Pray that the summer ministry would go well and that children would come to know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.
Pray for us as a family, that we would continue to rely on God each day and guard our relationship with Him above all.
