{"id":8202,"date":"2018-10-08T19:28:17","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T19:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carrickfergusbaptist.com\/site\/?p=8202"},"modified":"2018-10-08T19:31:00","modified_gmt":"2018-10-08T19:31:00","slug":"one-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carrickfergusbaptist.com\/site\/blog\/2018\/10\/one-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"One Thing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago Sarah read this poem as part of a Sermon Peter preached on Psalm 27. <a href=\"https:\/\/carrickfergusbaptist.com\/site\/sermons\/one-thing\/\">You can listen in the sermon section of the site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One Thing<br \/>\nOne thing,<br \/>\nOne thing,<br \/>\nOne thing!<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s hard to imagine<br \/>\nOne thing<br \/>\nWhen I seem to be attracted<br \/>\nto so many things.<br \/>\nIt is a continuing<br \/>\nstruggle.<br \/>\nIt is a daily<br \/>\nbattle.<br \/>\nIt is my constant<br \/>\nwar.<br \/>\nThe world of the physical<br \/>\nattracts me<br \/>\nexcites me<br \/>\nmagnetizes me<br \/>\naddicts me.<br \/>\nI confuse consumption<br \/>\nwith satisfaction.<br \/>\nI confuse satisfied senses<br \/>\nwith true joy.<br \/>\nI confuse a stomach that is full<br \/>\nwith a heart at rest.<br \/>\nSometimes I would rather have<br \/>\nmy appetites satisfied<br \/>\nthan a grace-filled heart.<br \/>\nSometimes I would rather hold<br \/>\nthe physical<br \/>\nthan have the eyes of my heart<br \/>\nbe filled<br \/>\nwith the beauty of<br \/>\nthe spiritual.<br \/>\nI am tired of only seeing<br \/>\nwhat<br \/>\nmy physical eyes<br \/>\ncan see.<br \/>\nI want eyes<br \/>\nto see<br \/>\nwhat<br \/>\ncannot be seen.<br \/>\nI am tired of craving<br \/>\npeople<br \/>\npossessions<br \/>\nlocations<br \/>\ncircumstances<br \/>\npositions<br \/>\nexperiences<br \/>\nappearances&#8230;<br \/>\nSomewhere in my heart<br \/>\nI know that only you<br \/>\nsatisfy.<br \/>\nDeep in my heart<br \/>\nI want you to be<br \/>\nenough.<br \/>\nI must quit<br \/>\nmoving<br \/>\nrunning<br \/>\ndriving<br \/>\npursuing<br \/>\nconsuming.<br \/>\nI need to<br \/>\nstop.<br \/>\nI need to<br \/>\nbe quiet.<br \/>\nI need to sit<br \/>\nin the seat of grace<br \/>\nand wait<br \/>\nand wait<br \/>\nuntil these blind eyes<br \/>\nsee<br \/>\nuntil this cold heart<br \/>\ncraves<br \/>\nthe one beauty that<br \/>\nsatisfies<br \/>\nthe one beauty that<br \/>\nis You.<br \/>\n<strong>By Paul Tripp<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago Sarah read this poem as part of a Sermon Peter preached on Psalm 27.
