Standing between the high pews, listening to the doleful singing, trying to sing the words with understanding and willing the clock on so church could be over.\u00a0\u00a0I was familiar with it mainly because of its beautiful tune \u2013 \u2018The Londonderry Air\u2019 also known as Danny Boy.\u00a0It was a regular favourite at the annual Carrickfergus Musical festival at which I also took part many years ago.<\/p>\n<p>However, it wasn\u2019t until several years later in 1984 at the age of 16, when I attended the \u2018Wales &amp; Dales Bible Week\u2019 in Builth Wells that I heard it with new ears and in a whole different way.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I can still remember it very well.\u00a0\u00a0It was being sung by thousands of people all lifting their hearts to God in unison and with one voice, proclaiming that Jesus \u2018heals the broken-hearted\u2019, He \u2018calms our lurking fears\u2019 and how one day He will return in splendour.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It was so thrilling and stirring to see these fellow Christians fully engaged with the truths of what they were singing.\u00a0\u00a0It thrilled me so!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The hymn came to life for me and the words sprung off the page into my heart.\u00a0\u00a0Such wonderful words that told of the Saviour and His message of salvation for all men.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Many of you may already know who it\u2019s writer was.\u00a0\u00a0I was very interested to learn that\u00a0<strong>William Young Fullerton<\/strong>\u00a0had been a Baptist Preacher born in Belfast in 1857. A personal friend of the \u2018Prince of Preachers\u2019 \u2013 Charles Haddon Spurgeon.\u00a0\u00a0Fullerton was a regular speaker at the Keswick conventions and during his lifetime and he published biographies of well know men of God such as F.B. Meyer, John Bunyan and Charles Spurgeon.\u00a0\u00a0He wrote beautiful pieces of prose, poetry and hymns about the Christian journey.<\/p>\n<p>He died at the age of 75 in 1932.\u00a0\u00a0Not that long ago really.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>I love the swell of the music that leads us into the second half of each verse.<br \/>\n\u2026But this I know, that HE was born of Mary<br \/>\n\u2026But this I know, He Heals the broken hearted<br \/>\n\u2026But this I know, all flesh shall see His glory<br \/>\n\u2026But this I know; the skies will thrill with rapture.<br \/>\nAnd myriad, myriad human voices sing<br \/>\nAnd earth to heaven and heaven to earth will answer:<br \/>\nAt last the Saviour, Saviour of the world is King.<\/p>\n<p>Hallelujah!\u00a0\u00a0How wonderful!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>I cannot tell why He, whom angels worship,<br \/>\nshould set His love upon the sons of men,<br \/>\nor why, as Shepherd, He should seek the wanderers,<br \/>\nto bring them back, they know not how or when.<br \/>\nBut this I know, that He was born of Mary<br \/>\nwhen Bethlehem\u2019s manger was His only home,<br \/>\nand that He lived at Nazareth and laboured,<br \/>\nand so the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is come.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot tell how silently He suffered,<br \/>\nas with His peace he graced this place of tears,<br \/>\nor how His heart upon the cross was broken,<br \/>\nthe crown of pain to three and thirty years.<br \/>\nBut this I know, He heals the broken-hearted<br \/>\nand stays our sin and calms our lurking fear<br \/>\nand lifts the burden from the heavy laden;<br \/>\nfor yet the Saviour, Saviour of the world is here.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot tell how He will win the nations,<br \/>\nhow He will claim his earthly heritage,<br \/>\nhow satisfy the needs and aspirations<br \/>\nof east and west, of sinner and of sage.<br \/>\nBut this I know, all flesh shall see His glory,<br \/>\nand He shall reap the harvest He has sown,<br \/>\nand some glad day His sun will shine in splendour<br \/>\nwhen He the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is known.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot tell how all the lands shall worship,<br \/>\nwhen at His bidding every storm is stilled,<br \/>\nor who can say how great the jubilation<br \/>\nwhen all the hearts of men with love are filled.<br \/>\nBut this I know, the skies will thrill with rapture,<br \/>\nand myriad, myriad human voices sing,<br \/>\nand earth to heaven and heaven to earth, will answer,<br \/>\n\u2018At last the Saviour, Saviour of the world, is King!\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have always had a love of music and have a deep appreciation for all types of music &amp; songs.\u00a0\u00a0But it\u2019s the hymns and songs relating to our Christian faith and the sentiments expressed that speak of our Lord Jesus, Heaven and the Father, that touches me most.
